Apple and Date Charlotte Recipe

Ingredients :

90 ml

whole meal bread crumbs

cooking apples, cored and thinly sliced

stoned dates, sliced

clear honey

water

margarine

grated rind and juice 1 lemon

pinch ground cloves

Method :
  1. Heat the oven to 180oC (350oF), Gas 4.
  2. Grease a 575 ml baking dish and dredge with bread crumbs.
  3. Arrange a layer of apples in the dish and sprinkle with all the dates and some of the bread crumbs.
  4. Continue making layers of apples and crumbs, finishing with bread crumbs.
  5. Gently heat the honey, water, lemon rind and juice; cloves and margarine in small pan until well blended, then pour over the pudding.
  6. Pat down well with the back of spoon.
  7. Bake for 11/4 - 11/2 hours, or until the top is crisp and golden down.
  8. Serve hot.

Serves 4
