Place apple
into a saucepan, add water and cinnamon or cloves. Gently simmer for
approximately 10 minutes until apple is tender, or microwave, covered on
'high' for 6 minutes. Lightly grease a small casserole and spoon in
apple, removing cloves if used. Mix topping ingredients and sprinkle
thickly over apple. Bake for 30 minutes or until topping becomes golden.
Serve hot or cold.
You can
replace the apples in this recipe with peaches, apricots or plums or
with two apples and half a cup of cooked rhubarb. If you have a
favorite combination, you can use it in this recipe, too.
